My paintings tend to have a naturalistic appeal with a hint of impressionism. The main focus of the paintings is the emotion of the piece. My drawings, on the other hand, have a realistic appeal. The focus for these pieces is the underlying ironies, allusions, and metaphors, most having to deal with the comparison of life and death. My photographs rarely have humans, due to the focus of natural appeal. These pieces have a lot of blurred and pinpoint focal points, alluding to the notion of what is important within the photographs. Finally, my digital art is more of a combination of the focal points of the other three mediums. My Photoshop pieces tend to deal with metaphors and specific focal points while my mixed songs deal with emotion and nature.
I recently graduated from the Academy of Art University with a Master's of Fine Arts degree in Art History, focusing on the High Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque periods. I previously graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Art History. My inspiration comes from allusions and stories, as did many of the pieces of art during these two eras. I try to tell a story with my artwork, whether it’d be just a simple phrase (such as the “game of life”) or a story with a complex and unique background (such as the allusions of an Angel of Peace with an Angel of Death), much like the stories and allusions told by Italian artists from the 1300s through the 1700s.
I have many inspirations for my artwork, including songs, movies, video games, and various famous artists. Four main artists that I have idolized over the years have been Bernini, Bosch, Caravaggio, and Monet. I strive for the moral and comprehensive stories as told by Bernini, the complex and sometimes chaotic scene layouts of Bosch, the illusion of realism and storytelling by Caravaggio, and the landscape beauty of Monet. I have a good understanding of harmonies, rhythms, melodies, and chords from my time in music ensembles. I am inspired from movie and video game soundtracks as well as classical music, more focusing on the melodies and emotions rather than any lyrics. Finally, I am also inspired by the incredible artwork that goes into animated movies, television shows, and video games. These include such titles like “How to Train Your Dragon”, “Nightmare Before Christmas”, the “Gears of War” series, and the “Assassin’s Creed” series.
